For more than 100 years, the Calgary Combative Sports Commission (CCSC) has been regulating, governing and overseeing combative sports events and contestants in Calgary in order to ensure events are conducted in a safe environment for participants, officials and spectators.

Combative sports —martial arts, mixed martial arts, muay thai, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling—are governed by the
Combative Sports Commission Bylaw (53M2006). This bylaw covers all aspects of professional/amateur combative sport events including:

  • Coordinating pre-event activities such as weigh-ins
  • Staffing requirements of officials and medical personnel
  • Publishing rules and policies governing the conduct at these events
  • Protecting the health and safety of competitors
  • Maintaining the integrity of Calgary’s sport industry

While the Commission is responsible for overseeing all combative sports events, in some cases, amateur sports associations have been authorized by the Commission to regulate these events on their behalf.

However, the Commission requires seating for two members to be reserved at ringside at events.
